Summer minis at Lake Ginninderra
Summer in Canberra is usually hot, and sunny - so it's no surprise most of us are drawn to the water. This summer I did mini sessions over three dates at John Knight Memorial Park, Lake Ginninderra. It was warm, sunny, and brimming with life, as the insects buzzed, and the waterbirds stalked us for some tucker.
Taking photos in the daytime can mean we end up chasing the sun (or rather, hiding from it), but we all managed to have a lot of fun & laughter.
The kids enjoyed watching the birds, and we even saw some baby waterfowl following their mums around, begging for food.
We had shoots with 3 generations, celebrating babies on the way, newborns, and even a few pooches!
What is a "mini session"?
Short and sweet minis are less fuss, and over quickly (15-20mins) - especially good for young children. I have a few tricks up my sleeve (read: stickers, instant camera, and some silly prompts) to help children warm up, so I always allow and extra 5 minutes in my minis to give children a moment to decompress and familiarise themselves with the area. Minis are usually booked back-to-back, so there isn't time to add any poses at the end. They're a simple and easy way to get some updated family photos, and are very cost effective. I usually theme them around something special at that time of year, such as summer, spring, Mother's Day, Christmas etc. I usually have four different mini sessions each year - but I also offer general family "minis" all year round.
Interested in your own mini shoot? I'd love to hear from you!
